You will find us almost every Thursday night from around 6pm, offering a free community drum session in downtown Palm Springs, California! We have partnered with an amazing non-profit shop called Music Heals, Inc. This has been a natural partnership in the making. Both of our missions are related to using music as a conduit to healing the body,...
From Kenya to California and places in between, we share traditional music and art with young people (since 2008)!

Our Mission Statement
March Forth Kenya Kids uses music, education and the arts to enrich the lives of Kenyan youth living in less economically endowed areas. By using positive community role models to teach youth lucrative skills such as drumming, dancing, and yoga, we aim to lead them to lives free of crime and teach them that they can march forth to better their lives and the lives of their peers.
We are committed to changing lives...changing the world!
This is our story
Growing up in Nairobi Kenya in the 80s I was exposed to a very dynamic and colorful environment that had a lot of cultural music and sports (like boxing) which was always connected in some way to entertainment. Like so many other places in the world, there were also the "bad boys" in the same 'hood. I once got out of a bus in my neighborhood to sounds of gunshots at my primary school. It was at that moment that I knew I had to do something to change the sound. My idea was to drown out the noises of violence with the sound of drums.
HOW WE HELP
Current projects
What we do in 200 words or less!
March Forth Kenya Kids conducts activities year-round in both the United States and in Kenya Africa. We focus on activities and events to promote peace through the arts, all-cultural acceptance, and socially conscious citizens. At the core of our activities are Saturday classes for youth of all ages in Nairobi Kenya to teach them different forms of...
Community Events for the Global Changemaker
March Forth Kenya Kids is about coming together with people of all abilities and talents to stimulate the creativity within each of us. We spearhead networking and gatherings to facilitate discussion on manifesting solutions to the issues we face using music and art as the inspiration. We have curated several events to showcase the talent of local...
March Forth Necessity Grants
At least annually, we identify local schools and communities in need of items of necessity that may be difficult for individuals to obtain due to lack of personal funds. This has included school supplies and food basics for families in need at times when they need it most. Through donor gifts specified for our Necessity Grants Program, we have...
School Education Programs
Learning about other cultures' traditions and social practices has the capacity to enrich one's own experience in their own place and time. The main reason we founded March Forth Kenya Kids was that the best way to instill discipline and respect amongst the youth is through artistic expression coupled with educational excellence. This helps people...
Traditional Drumming and Dancing
Drumming is the heartbeat of our programs. We founded MFKK on the concept of traditional African drums. Drumming is one of the first forms of wireless communication. We often start our classes with a few students and when the sound of the drums vibrate through the atmosphere, the rest of the students show up. When you drum, your hands are...
Tree Planting Initiative
Part of our mission is to guide young people into being good citizens for the environment. We have always been aware of the reality that crafting a drum made from a local tree impacts the environment. All of our drums are locally sourced and handmade. In an effort to keep the environment thriving, we plant trees for every drum we...
Yoga for Kids
In August 2017, we added yoga classes to our program and it has been a total game changer. Thanks to the inspiration of James Mweu and the Africa Yoga Project, we have had some amazing yoga teachers share their knowledge and time with our students. We generally begin every Saturday class with the high energy vibrations of drumming. We...
The Songambele Project
"Songa Mbele" in swahili means to go forward, or March Forth! This is what we are helping our youth all over the world to do. One reason that people march forth is because they are inspired to do so by other individuals who have been successful in their talents. Songambele is a week long event held by March Forth...
